Mentoring with ACE Western PA

Mentors play an important role in our program as dedicated volunteers. Any organization or individual in a career in architecture, construction, or engineering can sign up to participate. Typically, a mentor can expect to commit to 2-30 hours of their time during the school year depending on the type of mentor position (see roles below). Mentors develop curriculum, lead sessions, organize site visits, and help teams with their final presentations. In addition to providing fulfilling program content, mentors become a resource for students on career paths, school choices, internships, and networking. Mentoring also counts towards AXP credits!

As a mentor, you can choose from 3 different roles:

  • Student Mentor

As a Student Mentor, you and another mentor will be assigned to a team of students and attend 8 sessions. You will guide the team throughout the year and help with developing their final presentation. This category is a high level of commitment and will require a background check.

  • Host Mentor

As a Host Mentor, you will host and/or plan a session including location, curriculum, activities, and dinner. This category is great for an entire company or organization that wishes to participate. A background check is not required unless an individual attends more than 2 student sessions.

An individual can choose to be a host mentor and will work with a host organization that pertains to your professional background and interests.

  • CIRT Mentor

As a CIRT mentor, you will help a student team compete in the Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT) National Design and Construction Competition.
